The Melbourne A Cappella Studio aims to promote A Cappella music, by running events and workshops for singers and teachers.
The term “A Cappella” refers to music sung without instrumental accompaniment.
The Melbourne A Cappella Studio is owned by Sarah Patterson. Sarah Patterson completed her Bachelor of Music / Bachelor of Teaching (Hons) degrees at the University of Melbourne in 2003. That same year, she was employed as a tutor with the Australian Children's Choir. She was the Head of Choral Music at Lauriston Girls's School from 2004 – 2006, and is currently the Head of Choral Music, and teaches classroom music, at Wesley College, Prahran. She has been a member of the National Youth Choir of Australia since 2004, and has sung with that group in tours in Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Sarah was the founder of Harambee Choir, and under her musical direction, Harambee advanced to the State Finals of the ABC Choir of the Year Competition in 2006, as well as earning three consecutive first places in the Boroondara Eisteddfod, from 2004 – 2006. In 2008, Harambee made it through to the Grand Final on Channel 7’s “Battle of the Choirs”, where they were awarded 3rd place in the competition. Since 2004, Sarah has also musically directed “Starbound” musical theatre workshops each January, for 14 – 18 year-old performers.
